July 2006 - District of Houston adopts new bylaw for wood burning appliances -  the first municipality in Canada to adopt a wood burning appliance bylaw with a mandatory removal date for all uncertified wood burning appliances (Dec 31 2010).  Town of Smithers gives 1st, 2nd and 3rd readings to new wood burning appliance smoke control bylaw that complements Houston's efforts.

May 2006 - Town of Smithers holds Burning Bylaw Workshop and drafts Wood burning appliance bylaw. Town Council will be giving bylaw 1,2,3 readings on June 13th.

March 2006 - A pilot project is underway in the BVLD as part of a study on a BC-Wide Wood Stove Exchange Program. Two employees of the BC Conservation Corps are developing an inventory of wood burning appliances throughout the BVLD airshed. In addition they will be conducting household surveys and asking for participation in focus group sessions to be held in April or May. The focus group sessions have an objective of identifying barriers and increasing incentives for changing out old technology stoves and operating wood burning appliances for maximum efficiency and minimum emissions.

February 2006 - CANFOR and Moricetown Band announce partnership to shut down beehive burner by December 31, 2007.

July 2005 - Pacific Inland Resources shuts down their beehive burner and replaces it with a hot oil energy system, used to power 7 of their kilns.
